Follow These Tips To Buy The Right American Flag
Confused about what type of flag you should get? If you’re unfamiliar with flag craftsmanship and differences, don’t worry! Here’s a guide that’ll help you pick the right flag:
Buy a Locally-Made Flag
When you’re looking for an American flag, you may find yourself drawn to cheap options that look good. But you get the product you pay for when buying a flag. Most cheap flags you see on the internet are made outside of the US. The materials used are usually low quality and will not be resistant to weathering. Thus, it is recommended to buy a flag made in the US. These can be identified by a “Made in America” tag. The materials and quality are superior, and they will last forever.
Pick the Right Material
If you want to buy an outdoor flag, choose the material wisely. Usually, American flags are made of polyester, nylon, or cotton.
Nylon
Nylon is a popular material for American flags today. It is lightweight, so it flies even in low wind conditions. The colors are vibrant and often colored with UV-resistant ink. However, it doesn’t have the best quality. Since it is lightweight, it could get damaged in high wind conditions.
Polyester
This is heavier than nylon and closely resembles a boat sail. It’s an excellent material for high-wind areas. Usually, flags are made with two-ply polyester layers to make them more durable. Unfortunately, if the flag is regularly exposed to precipitation or the sun, you may see some fading.
Cotton
Cotton flags are excellent choices for ceremony or commemoration. Their colors are rich, and the Stars and Stripes pattern is distinctively vivid. The only disadvantage is its price; they are slightly expensive.
Choose the Right Size
Once you’ve figured out what material you want, you’ll need to identify the correct dimensions. If you’re buying a flag for your home, the most common dimensions are 3’x5’. On the other hand, the sizes aren’t standard if you want to use a flagpole. If your house or building doesn’t have a tall enough pole, keep in mind that an inappropriately sized flag can seem ostentatious and obtrusive.
